Spotlight Series: Meet Cheyenne

Wassup, I'm Cheyenne Montgomery and I am a junior Computer Science major at the University of Maryland

College Park. I like to kick box and traditional box and I also enjoy playing video games and coding in my free time.

A couple years ago, actually about five years ago, I put a relaxer on my hair because I was tired of having to maintain my hair. I was terrible at it and I didn't want to do it anymore. After a while I grew tired of my relaxed hair so I and then decided to let it grow out. I had more hair than I do now, like a shmedium afro thing going on. That soon ended in 2017 when I made the decision to do the big chop and had the sides shaved down and kept the top a little longer. I feel like having my hair short really helps express my identity in a way that having long hair doesn't.

Um, how do I care for myself? I'm currently in school and being a CS major requires me to be in front of the computer a majority of the time and I find it very difficult for me to get away from a screen of some sort. I actually recognized that one day I spent the entire day looking at some

screen whether it was for school, entertainment or to even workout. When I have time between classes, I'll take a YouTube break because, unfortunately, I don't have time to like work out AND take a shower, so I kind of just sit around for that hour. When I'm not in school, I like to go outdoors, even if it's just sitting in the driveway getting some sun, and I also enjoy listening to music or going on drives, especially if it's nice outside, to sit at the park and get some fresh air.

I like to keep my hair care simple so I only use mousse and water on my hair. I prefer the brand Vigorol because it's affordable, doesn't weigh my hair down, and keeps my curls defined and shiny.
